Propane Tank

May 2025

Although I’m a huge fan of winter, I also enjoy the way the earth comes alive at this time of year. The grass is greening up nicely, the trees are budding and farmers are beginning to till up the soil and plant this year’s crops. My biggest problem this time of year is figuring out what to wear. One day I’m in a t-shirt and the next I’ve got to put on a sweater. Do I wear spring colors or dark colors to hide the weight I gained over the winter? The struggle is real.

In the energy division we’re already preparing for next winter. In our endeavor to make the contracting process easier for our customers, we have an auto-renew option that allows our customers to renew their contract annually while allowing them to make changes to their contract if they request it. Our cap and budget customers were already being auto-renewed and the last two years we have offered this option to our booking and prepay customers as well. About two million gallons of contracts will be auto-renewed this year during the month of May so it seems to be a very popular option. If you want to beat the rush next year, check the auto-renew box on your contract.

In June we will be sending out our annual safety mailing and paper contracts to lock in your propane price for the next heating season. Once again, with the volatility of the energy markets, locking in your propane price paid off last winter. One would think that if the U.S. exports 62 percent of it’s propane to the rest of the world that we would never have supply issues in the winter. But every year during cold snaps, there are supply challenges. There is plenty of propane in caverns in Kansas but getting it from there to here can be difficult. We can easily overcome supply issues because of our connections with our suppliers, but at a higher price. Take my annual advice and get your price locked in or you may find yourself paying more during the winter.

If you’re a farmer heading to the fields and you don’t buy diesel fuel from us, we’re worth a look. We’ve got a solid tank program, reasonable prices and a diesel product that is second to none. If you’d like to lock in your diesel price, we can do that too. Contact Shane at 608-504-6281.

I hope you have a chance to spend Memorial Day with friends and family, and please take a moment to think about those who died in service to the nation. Thank you for your business.

As we move into the growing season, ensuring your crops have the nutrients they need to thrive is critical. Whether you and your agronomist planned for split-applied nitrogen or not, one of the most effective strategies to boost corn performance is with an in-crop application of nitrogen. This practice delivers nitrogen directly to plants when they need it most, supporting vigorous growth and optimizing yield potential. For farmers looking to enhance productivity while maintaining efficiency, top-dressing urea is a proven practice for success.

As I write this update the last week of April, the wet and windy start to spring has many of our producer members and staff a little anxious to get in the field and start planting. Our agronomy team fully understands that once the weather conditions improve, the seasonal demands experienced earlier in the spring are now compressed into a shorter timeframe.
